Graphisoft’s Global Recruitment Survey Finds BIM Knowledge The Most In-Demand Skills

[ad_1]

Graphisoft, the leading provider of building information modeling (BIM) software solutions for architecture, today announced the results of its “Hire the Next Generation of Architects” * global recruitment survey, the first of its kind in the AEC sector. The survey attracted over 1,100 responses and focused on the skills and mindset needed in today’s digital architecture job market.

– Balanced skills make ideal candidates

According to 39% of employers who responded to the survey, current candidates do not have a good balance between the three skill areas that make up the BIM mindset: digital mindset / software skills, ‘engineering spirit / technical skills and state of mind / artistic creativity. Graphisoft’s Global Recruitment Survey is an important first step in bridging the gap between employer expectations and the way architects are currently trained. The survey targeted practices across the spectrum with small (60%), medium (18%) and large (22%) companies responding from around the world.

– Knowledge of BIM software + BIM mindset is essential

“To help companies find great talent, we asked employers what the main obstacles are when recruiting recent graduates from architecture schools,” said Szabolcs Miko, Global Education Manager at Graphisoft. “49% of those surveyed said job applicants lacked BIM proficiency, while 39% said recruits didn’t even have a BIM mindset.”

66% of those surveyed responsible for hiring new hires said knowledge of BIM is the most important requirement, closely followed by a BIM mindset at 59%.

The survey showed that employers support the acquisition of BIM software skills through on-the-job training (69%), internal training (53%) and external training by third parties (40%).

“The survey shows how important BIM is in training the architects of the future,” said Huw Roberts, CEO of Graphisoft. “Graphisoft is committed to bridging the gap in architecture education by offering Archicad free to students, giving them the tools they need to compete successfully in the job market.

– Referrals, universities and social media are the main recruiting channels

The most effective channels for recruiting young graduates and young professionals are above all referrals (55%), university networks (44%), social networks (40%) and job sites (27%).
