WCSO recruiting event scheduled for Saturday in Jonesborough | News

Being wanted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office isn’t usually a good thing, but Sheriff Keith Sexton is on the lookout for residents who want a career in law enforcement.

The department will host a recruiting event at 9 a.m. Saturday at the sheriff’s office.

“We have a slew of jobs, including civilian positions, and we will be interviewing for all positions at the event on Saturday,” Sexton said.

All applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, pass a criminal background check and psychological evaluation, and be medically cleared.

The day will start with breakfast and an overview of available positions. Applicants can complete all necessary documents online at WCSO.netor complete a paper application on the day of the event.

A written exam will also be administered before applicants are interviewed by WCSO staff.

“Civilian employee starting salaries start at around $31,000 per year with all benefits,” Sexton said. “Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, state pension, paid vacation and sick leave, and use of the county employee health clinic.

Sexton also said: “There is also a lot of room within the department for advancement. When you work for me in the sheriff’s office, it’s the first step in a career, not just another job.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old for civilian positions and at least 21 years old for sworn positions. They should also bring the following with themto consider and possibly hire on Saturday:

• A valid Tennessee driver’s license or state-issued ID;

• A birth certificate ;

• A high school diploma or equivalent;

• A DD214 if applicable.
